Trains
Initially a beginner to model trains should start small. Depending on the space available, a small track can be built. Initially a small model train layout can be made, and trains can be run to get an idea of how the trains work. Some times , people spend a lot of time trying to decide how the layout will be , without having any trains running and they may lose interest over a period of time.
If possible a beginner should join a modular train club nearby. Members of the club build small 2' x 4' sections to a certain standard, and then join them together into a huge layout and public displays are assembled using these sections. By joining these clubs, a beginner can learn about railway track ballasting, small-scale detailing and weathering techniques, before moving on to a much bigger track layouts.
The Model RailRoader is a popular magazine with tips, ideas, layouts, plans for model trains and track layouts.
